Seeing that we're all in the middle of preparations for tomorrow's World Belly Dance Day, I thought I'd share Karma's (my alterego) makeup bag contents with you. Maybe you'll find a new product to try. . .
Please note that I'm not being paid to "advertise" these items - if you crack open my makeup bag, this is what you will find. I'm mentioning them here to show that it is not necessary to spend hundreds of Rands to look good when dancing.
I always carry wet wipes with me for those unexpected spills, but I really like this one for my face. It works great as a refreshing wipe and I also use it to clean my brushes while I'm applying makeup.
My favourite miracle product: when I'm going to work, I use this as a light foundation, but for dancing I use it as a primer/base for my other foundation. It's light, evens out the skin and holds all day.
Honestly, you'll look as if you have been Photoshop'ed! It covers all imperfections and clings to the skin for the full promised 18 hours.
My favourite gel to tame my crazy (but sparse) eyebrows.
You'll notice a lot of Essence cosmetics. . . This brow pencil works like a charm.
Another awesome Essence product: glides on easily with a fine tipped art brush (for extra precision)
Belly Dancers hate getting their lipstick on their veils or costumes. This one really sticks to your lips without drying them out.
We all love our falsies! I am not particular about what brand I buy. I get my current lashes from a Chinese store in town for R4.00 each - I am just weary of using their glue as my eyes might fall out!
My favourite gadget! Woolies stock this particular lash applicator, but I've seen others at Clicks. It works so easily, you wouldn't believe! No more poking yourself in the eye with a tweezer!
Dischem stocks a lash glue that works great if you're doing a quick gig - consensus amongst my fellow classmates are that it lasts max 6 hours for lashes. But. . . it also works great for securing facial bling!
Speaking of bling. . . In our little city we don't really have access to propper Indian bindis, so we make do with this - another Chinese shop score. Marketed to bling-up your car or phone, this works wonderfully when used with lash glue!
I never really worried about makeup until I started dancing, so I cheat a bit and use these "How-To" kits found at Clicks that shows exactly what shade of eyeshadow goes where for maximum effect.
To ensure that my makeup stays put all day, I love using Hannon's Moisture Seal. I got a sample in a goodie bag at my first Sisters with Blisters and I've been in love ever since.
To curb shine and to set my makeup, I love Essence's Fix&Matte translucent loose powder.
To ensure my face stays shine free, I use these blotting papers. It avoids that cakey-look when you keep on piling the powder on.
I hope you enjoyed this look into Karma's makeup bag. Please let me know if you've tried any of these products!
Happy Shimmying and enjoy World Belly Dance Day!
XxX
